CLINICAL SERVICES

We provide a variety of professional services, including short-term counseling, psychological/educational testing, psychiatric consultation, and referrals.  Counseling services are provided by licensed professional counselors and licensed psychologists.  Psychiatric services are provided by board-certified consulting psychiatrists.

Individual, Couples, and Group Counseling: Students can receive psychotherapy on a regular basis (usually once a week) and sessions typically last 45-50 minutes. Examples of typical therapy goals include manage emotions more effectively, improve relationship skills, increase self-esteem, and better cope with life experiences (i.e. relationship break-up, academic issues, and adjustment to changes).

Crisis Intervention: Students in crises can call 817-257-7863 during business hours (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. weekdays) to speak with a counselor, or they may come to our Center located at 2825 Stadium Drive. If there is an emergency after hours, please call the Campus police at 817-257-7777 or dial 911.

Psychiatric Evaluation/Consultation: Psychiatric services are provided at no additional cost for students who are participating in counseling at the Center. Students who request psychotropic medications but decline to meet with a counselor are typically referred to off-campus providers. If you are interested in our psychiatric services please contact our office at 817-257-7863.

CONSULTATIONS

Our staff is available to consult with concerned family, friends, or faculty/staff about a student in need. The Center does not release information regarding whether or not a student is receiving services unless written permission is obtained by the student, or the law dictates that confidentiality be broken (i.e. threat to self or others).

Furthermore, we cannot mandate students to seek our services. However, we can provide general advice on how to approach a student in need and give information about possible referrals. If you are interested in a consultation, please contact a counselor at 817-257-7863. If there is an emergency after hours, please call the Campus police at 817-257-7777 or dial 911.
